Range Rover Android 11 Infotainment upgrade

With the latest Octa Core Cortex A53 processor at 2.4Ghz the latest 11.0 android L405 & L494 systems are lightning fast, and super responsive. With 8GB of DDR3 Ram and 64GB of onboard storage, you can rest assured that these systems will provide years of reliable service. 

Why upgrade? 

Its no secret that the Infotainment in the early years of the L405 and L494 is pitiful, leagues behind its competitors when compared to the likes of Audi and BMW. Land Rover it seems were somewhat behind the curve when it came to technology. Other than spending more money on a newer car to get the tech you desire, what options are available to the L405 & L494? 

You can simply install the Apple CarPlay device into your Range Rover, these services are offered by many (not us) we do not offer this as an option for the simple reason that they are not fit for use. They cut the screen size of the car play due to the resolution and screens physical size. Our Android system however, provides not only a much needed face-lift to the car, but also brings with it some additional perks. The super crystal clear LED screen is enough to sway anyone into installing this system. Not only is the display super sharp and crisp, but it also provides high quality audio and video enhancements over the OEM system. 

Music

If you love your music and have the Meridian 1700W reference system installed in your Range Rover, then you will love the features of our Android system. Unlike the OEM system, the Android upgrade allows you to play full lossless quality FLAC files allowing you to listen to the music you love, exactly how the producer intended. If you enjoy music then enjoy it in the best quality format available!  MP3, WMA, APE, FLAC, AAC 

Video 

Videos can be played on the move and allow your passengers to watch full High Definition movies and videos on the move. You can install Netflix and Amazon Prime video direct, along with other media streaming such as Now TV and so on. Stream your latest series and never miss a thing on those long drives! Game of thrones has never been so immersive as it is using the cars full 3D Dolby surround sound. The system also features secondary inputs on the back for additional cameras. So you can install night vision, or thermal imaging cameras into your front grill and use the system to display, or simply upgrading your existing reverse camera and so on.  Video format MP4, AVI, WMV, RMVB, FLV, MKV, MOV, TS 

Original features 

We have lots of questions around the retention of the existing functionality. So what OEM functionality do you sacrifice, and if we were to pick holes in the product what would they be? Well like anything in life there is always a positive closely accompanied by a negative. Non of the negatives have ever put a customer off however, as the benefits far excel over the negatives for sure! 

The latest generation of 11.0 system is the result of years of iterative development between Range Rover World, and our partners Android Aftershock working with the manufacturer directly. The 11.0 system is a direct result of our passion and dedication to achieve the closest OEM style integration as possible. 

The pain points of the system are as follows: If you want to operate the climate seats or heated seats etc. then prior to pressing the usual physical 'Climate' button on your climate control, you would first have to press the home button on your android system. It may seem like a very trivial thing to mention, but we have lots of questions about ease of access to OEM functions. You will loose the duel view screen functionality if equipped. Rear seat entertainment would again require you to press the home button to access the OEM system and use the usual means to activate the rear screen from the front if you wanted to put a movie on for your rear passengers. Other than the above mentioned items, everything else integrates very nicely and you do not loose any of the OEM functions at all such as Self parking, 4x4 information and so on. 

Connectivity and Networking 

The 9.0 system also has a full sized sim card slot allowing you to install a sim card for data. Most modern cars including Land Rover have a sim-card that will allow your system full connectivity to the internet for access to media and streaming services such as Google maps, Youtube, Netflix, Amazon etc. with full 4G LTE it makes sense to have a sim card installed at the same time (Note this needs to be done at point of install and cannot be added later without a technician coming out to visit) You can of course tether your phone to the system and share data from your mobile phone if you do not wish to have a dedicated sim card in the device. 

You also have a USB input to the device that will be situated in your lower glove box after the installation. This will allow you to install a Solid State hard drive up to 1TB capacity for movies and media. you can also use any USB thumb drive to access media. 

Apple Car-play 

Here is where the unit really does shine. The Apple car play integration is absolutely superb, and is included as standard on all of our installations. This will allow you to connect your I Phone to the car either via a lightning cable (recommended) or wireless. We recommend a wired connection when using car play as it can be quite thirsty on power if you are using maps, making calls, and streaming media from Apple. The onboard I Phone Apple car play is a high powered charging unit with high output to keep your I Phone charged. Note: You cannot connect wireless car play and then also plug in a separate charging cable to the car play. This is due to the I phone software and not the Android system. The I phone will think you have plugged in headphones and then stop playing your audio from Car Play. The only way around this is to have wireless charging if you intend to connect wireless, hence we strongly recommend using the onboard lightning connection for Car Play. 

Styling and interface

The interface comes with multiple available themes and skins to suit your taste. We personally like the 2017 look and feel of the coloured screen rather than the later 2020 white plain looking theme, but each to their own and at least we have a choice! 

Other features 

In addition to the features mentioned above, the android system has a wealth of additional features that make the system that little more enjoyable. The ability to add any app you like from the google play store allows you to have access to all your favourite apps on the move. If you want access to Torque pro and use an OBD2 plug to see live values as you drive then you can do so. The android system also talks to your can bus system and allows it to access some of the ECU data such as when the doors are open, if the hand brake is on or off, and also is able to provide full RPM data and speed in the form of a really cool instrument cluster that you can display on the screen at any time, for no reason other than it can!! and it looks cool if you happen to be in the mood for a more spirited drive! 

PLEASE NOTE: The above video is an android 9 video and not representative of the new android 11. The newest system does not have the same duration of lag on start up and is much faster than the android 9 counter part. We will update the video as soon as possible
